Nepals Potential of becoming Educational Hub

Foreign Minister Shishir Khanal has highlighted the potential of transforming Nepal into a “global education hub,” stressing the need for policy reforms, international collaboration, and increased investment in higher education.

Speaking at a seminar on student migration and global opportunities, he emphasized that “brain drain” should not be viewed only negatively, but as a chance to gain knowledge, skills, and experience. He noted the importance of creating an environment where students returning from abroad can utilize their expertise within the country.

Khanal pointed out that issues such as irregular academic calendars, lack of infrastructure, and limited opportunities in Nepal’s universities are key factors driving students abroad, calling for urgent reforms.

He also suggested that attracting foreign universities and international students to Nepal could boost research, innovation, and job creation. He stressed the need for the government to build a strong bridge connecting Nepali students abroad with opportunities at home, and to move forward with a long-term vision to transform the education sector.
